The best way to come off the Master Cleanse program is to do it slowly. After 10 days or more of fasting, you can’t just go back to eating regular food.
If you do this you will shock your digestive system and could even make you sick. For example, if you eat a burger & fries the day after you come off the master cleanse, your body just won’t be able to handle all that fatty food. You will likely experience severe stomach cramps & constipation which may last for days.
When breaking a cleanse or any type of fast, it’s best to take things slowly. You are re-introducing natural, solid foods a little bit at a time.
I plan on following a modified cleanse process for the next week. According to the Stanely Burroughs book, the standard way to come off is to do it over the course of 4 days.
- Day 1: Add 1 glass orange juice only, no solid foods
- Day 2: Incorporate some broth or light soups (plus the orange juice)
- Day 3: Introduce fresh fruits & vegetables (plus the OJ & soup)
- Day 4: Back to healthy eating, but still take it easy. No heavy meats or fatty foods (you should not want these anyway).
Take it slow and wait a few hours after adding each new food to your daily diet to make sure you don’t have any gas or stomach cramps. If you do, you can continue to drink the lemonade for one or more of your meals each day. The Secrets to the Master Cleanse ebook gives you even more tips for easing out of the master cleanse.
After the Master Cleanse: Day 1 Transition
I woke up like normal and made my laxative tea & lemonade for the morning. After my tea, I drank a big glass of water, then some lemonade. By mid-morning I left a little hungry, so decided to go for it & prepared ½ an orange. I know the original book by Stanley Burroughs says to drink diluted orange juice, but I have fresh oranges already. And after doing some research many people choose to use fresh oranges instead of the juice. So as long as you continue to drink plenty of water, this is just fine.
The orange was soo good. I ate it very slowly and enjoyed every bit. I made sure to chew it really well so my stomach would have less work to do. I waited about 2 hours to make sure there were no negative effects, drinking both a glass of water & lemonade in the meantime. Then I had the second half.
So far so good. My stomach is calm. Whew! Hopefully, this afternoon will go as smoothly. Tonight I am making the vegetarian soup from Stanley Burrough’s official master cleanse book, though I won’t eat it until Day 2. I’ve included the Master Cleanse veggie soup recipe here.
I drank 2 more glasses of lemonade during the day. I felt good, no ill effects from the orange. For dinner, I had ½ an avocado. That was even better than the orange. They call avocados the perfect food, plus they are very easy to digest.
I made the soup in the evening as planned & tried a little of the broth. It has a good flavor, so am looking forward to having this tomorrow.
After the Master Cleanse: Day 2 Transition
I had another orange for breakfast. Then drank some lemonade & had the other ½ of the avocado for lunch. For dinner, I had a small bowl of the veggie soup – eating mostly the broth & just a little of the veggies – that was really hard since it tasted so good.
Later that night I had another orange for a snack. Tonight I will take a laxative to help things along. Just in case. But I felt absolutely no ill effects from eating what I did. The transition is going very well.
Today was good, it’s really nice to start eating again, even if it’s just a little bit. Everything tastes so good, even just the broth I had was like a special treat. I had no stomach cramping and slept very well.
After the Master Cleanse: Day 3 Transition
This morning I had ½ yogurt for breakfast. This is one of the suggestions they make in the Master Cleanse ebook. Since we have cleansed our body of everything, it’s a good idea to introduce a little yogurt by day 3 to introduce some of the good bacteria into our bodies.
For lunch, I enjoyed some veggie soup. Then I ate an orange for a snack and more veggie soup for dinner. Today my energy was a little lower. I was feeling a little lightheaded. Likely I’m not eating enough calories, but am treading carefully for now. I also had a very active day as well, since it was Saturday. So maybe I shouldn’t have done so much.
After the Master Cleanse: Day 4 transition
I weighed myself today & I’m down another 1.5 pounds! That puts me at 134 which is 10.5 pounds lost total! I have met my goal & will continue eating very clean & healthy to lose the remaining 5 pounds that I wanted to before the end of the month.
Today was mother’s day and we had a brunch at my sister-in-law’s house. I managed to keep it light & made sure I ate before I went so I wasn’t too hungry.
• Breakfast – 1 yogurt plus an orange about an hour later
• Lunch – Salad with goat cheese, asparagus & a small piece of ham
• Dinner – Homemade Guacamole + carrot sticks
The guacamole is really good with carrots – who needs the fattening chips? It’s a nice balance with the sweetness & crunch of the carrot and the creamy zestiness of the guacamole. I used probably a little too much garlic, but it was still really good. Here is a link to the guacamole recipe I made.
After the Master Cleanse: Day 5 Transition
I had my first cup of coffee today. Wow, I definitely feel the effects of caffeine after not having it for a while. I’m going to try & limit my coffee to 1-2 cups per day. I really only need 2 cups, but sometimes I’ll drink it all day. And caffeinated drinks are not a replacement for water. According to an article at Brown University, “Caffeinated beverages will only add to your body’s dehydration.”
From here on out – I plan to continue eating healthy & clean. My diet will consist of yogurt, fresh fruit, veggie soups, salads + my choice of protein.
Although many recommend keeping to a vegetarian diet for many reasons, I am a steadfast meat eater. I don’t plan on giving it up but will try to keep to healthy proteins like fish & chicken with only the occasional indulgence in things like hamburgers or processed meats.
I hoped you all enjoyed my Master Cleanse Journal & you found some benefit from seeing what I went through day by day. And don’t forget to pick up your copy of the Secrets to Master Cleanse eBook by Raylen Sterling. It was a lifesaver for me and made the whole process much easier!
