Today is the day I start the Master Cleanse. I woke up this morning ready to go. I have all my supplies & am so ready to start this journey. I opened up my Master Cleanse Secrets guide & re-read a few parts to make sure I had everything right. I also made a little cheat sheet, so I had all important points in my note pad.
So here it is, the start of my Master Cleanse Journal – Day 1.
Weighing In on the Master Cleanse Day 1
First I weighed & measured myself. It’s important to get your baseline weight so you have a good measuring point. It’s a good practice to also weigh yourself at the same time of day each. I like to get on the scale the first thing in the morning after the morning bathroom trip & before I’ve had anything to drink. That way you are comparing apples to apples. If you compare your weight first thing in the morning & the next day in the evening there will be normal fluctuations based on the amount of fluid you have in your system. You should also take your measurements so you can track the number of inches lost along with the weight.
So here were my results – Yikes, I didn’t realize how bad things had gotten. No wonder my clothes have been so tight! I weighed in at 144.5 & I am 5’2″. My goal is to lose at least 10 pounds on the cleanse, then another 5 pounds the month after. I’m very comfortable at around 130 & have been able to maintain that weight for a period of time. I’d really like to be around 125, but I know that’s a bigger stretch for me to achieve. And right now I would just be happy to fit back in all my clothes again. But I digress – back to the Master Cleanse Journal, Day 1…
Master Cleanse Day 1 Morning
I decided to start with the sea salt water as my first laxative. It’s not as bad as I thought – I read many Master Cleanse reviews before starting this diet and one person claimed it was the consistency of sludge. That just isn’t true. It’s only 1 teaspoon in 25 ounces of warm water, so that’s just plain wrong. It took me about ½ hour to drink the salt water. I sipped it as I would my coffee in the morning. Not the same thing at all!! But it’s doable for 10 days.
Next I made the lemonade. I made 30 ounces to start since that’s the size pitcher I have. Thankfully I put a water filter on my sink not too long ago, so I have filtered water. It took 2 lemons to get 6 tablespoons – that’s about right. For an average sized lemon, you will get 3 tablespoons each. Organic lemons are occasionally smaller so you may need more.
The lemonade was really good! I enjoyed it, especially after drinking the salt water! I tried the first glass without the cayenne pepper since I was worried it would be too spicy for me – especially first thing in the morning. I drank it really fast; I was thirsty especially after the salt water.
I started alternating water & the lemonade. The second glass of lemonade I made, I included the cayenne pepper. It was fine, not too spicy at all, so I’ll go ahead and make my next batch altogether. The maple syrup gives it a nice flavor, not at all what I expected. So that was a nice surprise. Still feeling confident I can keep this up for a week or more – of course it’s only the first day!
Master Cleanse Day 1 – Afternoon
By one o’clock, I am getting hungry. I prepared a little of the allowable protein source from the Secrets Guide & that helped. And I finished off the rest of my first batch of lemonade. I notice that the cayenne gets stronger the more it sits in the lemonade, so if you don’t like spicy stuff, maybe just add it as you go.
At about 3pm I started getting a headache, ouch. I pushed through and got busy at work which was a blessing. I had a cup of tea & that eased my headache some. I kept alternating the lemonade & water for the rest of the day. I wasn’t really too hungry yet.
After work, I had a little nap which was nice. I finished up the second batch of lemonade and kept drinking water. I still had a crushing headache later this evening, so I pretty much just took it easy the rest of the night. I avoided taking aspirin, although I was tempted. The headache is common for me on the first day or two of a cleanse as my body adjusts, so I know it’s only temporary. I normally drink several cups of coffee a day, so between the caffeine and sugar withdrawal, it’s to be expected.
As the evening went on, I felt very nauseous; the lemonade wasn’t tasting so good anymore. I decided to call it an early night. I drank a big glass of water with 2 psyllium husk capsules for my evening laxative and went to sleep.
Master Cleanse Day 1 Summary
The morning was really very easy, but I guess that’s pretty normal. I enjoyed the lemonade which was a pleasant surprise. But by late afternoon, the headache really crushed me. I was happy to go to sleep. I wasn’t terribly hungry during the day, so that was better than expected. Next time, I think I’ll slowly start limiting my cafeinne BEFORE I start a cleanse, so it’s not such a shock to go without it.
